Although much of Orlando’s popularity revolves around theme parks, you may be interested to know that the city is also very popular for Florida golfing holidays, as more than $300 million is injected into the local economy every year thanks to the sport.
Though there wasn’t a golf course in Central Florida until 1893, today there are no less than 189 of them, all within an hour’s drive of Orlando.
With 236 days of sunshine every year, there’s little wonder why roughly 40 PGA Tour members call Greater Orlando their home.
Here are some of the top courses to check out on your Florida golfing holidays:
Bay Hill Club & Lodge
What Gold Magazine described as the third best public golf course in Florida, the Bay Hill Club & Lodge is also the winter home of Arnold Palmer.
For $186-$225, the lodge also happens to offer a spa, salon, fitness centre, swimming pool and tennis courts. The only catch is that if you are not invited to play by a member, you have to stay overnight to be able to play at the course, though you can book by clicking here.
Grand Cypress Resort
Featuring no trees, minimal water and roughly 140 bunkers, the Grand Cyprus Resort costs $120-$175 per play and is designed in homage to the Old Course at St. Andrews. The resort also provides an extensive practice facility, which includes a very reasonable three-hole practice course.
Besides superb greens, the resort also offers an assortment of packages including VIP treatments and couples deals for those who want to spend a little bit of time together.
Walt Disney World
Of course, you can’t really get far without finding Disney somehow involved in your Florida golfing holidays plans.
With a range of courses, the premier Disney offering is the 18 hole Osprey Ridge and is located near the Fort Wilderness Resort. Though it has been closed over the past year, the course is due to reopen very shortly.
Additionally, you do not have to pay through the nose to play as you can do so for as little as £75; a great bargain for anyone looking to enjoy one an attraction on a budget.
